Here at Kindred, we don't just do pretty weddings and events. We also love designing amazing spaces. I hesitate to mention this because if you saw my own home, you would question my honesty. We bought our house in September and have hardly touched it. It remains in the sad late-seventies state that we found it in. This past weekend we finally began to get serious. I'm excited to share the journey here. In honor of all great decorating beginnings I give this roundup by Matchbook Magazine.
"In honor of the first lady of interior decoration, a roundup of witty quotations by the late, great Elsie de Wolfe (1865-1950)...
No. 1. "I opened the doors and windows of America, and let in the air and sunshine."
No. 2. "Good dressing is largely a question of detail and accessories."
No. 3 ...
No. 4. "No, I don't take soup. You can't build a meal on a lake."
No. 5. "It's beige! My color!" -when she first beheld the Parthenon
No. 6. "There never was a house so bad that it couldn’t be made into something worthwhile."
No. 7. "I was born with the courage to live. Only those are unwise who have never dared to be fools."
No. 8. "Be pretty if you can, be witty if you must, but be gracious if it kills you."
No. 9. "Never complain, never explain." -motto she had embroidered on her taffeta pillows
No. 10. "I am going to make everything around me beautiful. That will be my life."
I left off No. 3 to be shared soon with our weekend project. Praying for inertia and that the ball will keep rolling, on our renovations and whatever interior changes you may be making as well.
